One Renfrew resident says many in the community are set to benefit as the town explores more ways to increase housing options.
Joel McCrea met with the town council during their Tuesday public meeting regarding changes to housing by-laws that allow for up to two additional dwelling units in detached, semi-detached, or townhouse-style residences serviced by municipal infrastructure, saying that it makes sense to utilize the space that’s already available in town.
He calls the amended by-laws, which now line up with recent provincial changes to the Planning Act, a win for those seeking affordable housing options and for aging homeowners looking to offset their expenses ahead of retirement.
While McCrea was the lone resident at the public meeting, he says that there is great interest among his neighbours and the greater community.
Council voted to approve the by-law changes later that meeting.
