Bradyn and Innis (centre), the local Walk for Dog Guide Ambassadors, join some of the walkers from this past weekend trek through Ma-te-Way Park
A new chapter is on the way for the Renfrew Lions Club’s Walk for Dog Guides following another success over the weekend.
Members of the community braved cool and windy conditions to trek through Ma-te-Way-Park and the nearby trail system with their pets on Sunday, May 31.
Organizers Diana Larocque and Sara Smeltzer were still thrilled with the results, which will ensure another local dog guide gets the training they need to support their human companions.
This year’s walk will be the last for the organizing team, who have been vital in reintroducing an important annual fundraiser into the Renfrew Lions’ charitable efforts. Both are excited to see who steps up to continue the momentum they have built for the cause and will be ready to help when planning for next year begins.
This past weekend was also the final event for the walk’s local ambassadors, Bradyn Waterman and his autism support dog, Innis, who have become a prime example of how positive the impact a dog guide can have is.
The Lions Foundation and PetValu host the Walk for Dog Guides in communities across Canada each year, supporting the development of dogs who assist with vision, hearing, seizure response, autism support, diabetes alert, service needs, and facility support for traumatic experiences.
