Off-roaders in the Ottawa Valley will have more access to Renfrew under a new agreement.
The town has extended a memorandum of understanding to the Renfrew County ATV Club that would designate the former skating oval in Ma-te-Way Park as a parking space for off-road vehicles, improving traffic and safety during organized trail rides that can attract up to 60 trucks and trailers at a time.
Councillor Andrew Dick calls the move a “no-brainer,” which should also be brought up with local snowmobile, bike, and running clubs.
Reeve Peter Emon also supported the deal, noting that it was built on years of collaboration and relationship building with the ATV club to accommodate riders and make them feel welcome in town.
The agreement was originally for a single year but was extended to two years so the next council team had ample opportunity to see it in action.
Council’s motion notes that the RCATV trail system contributes to tourism and supports inclusive and sustainable economic activity within the Town of Renfrew.
