Renfrew Minor Hockey wants to strengthen its relationship with the town.
Association President Jon Pole met with the town council on Tuesday, May 12, seeking a partnership model that will help provide clarity and consistency regarding operational goals for volunteers and staff and formalize the great support the RMHA has enjoyed as they continue to grow their activity at the myFM Centre.
In exchange for that framework and assurances on certain items like greater recognition for the RMHA within the facility and more opportunities to use main rink time during their playoffs, Pole offered the town access to a $115,000 trust from the second ice pad committee, which first explored the idea decades ago.
With 300 active players in the league and over 200 visiting teams coming to Renfrew every season, minor hockey not only benefits the families playing but also boosts the local economy as people shop, eat, and stay in the area.
Pole believes taking the chance to set the relationship in stone will only help maintain those positives.
The council later brought forward a motion to negotiate a memorandum of understanding with the RMHA, which will be discussed at their next meeting.
