Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP are investigating after a two-vehicle collision in Whitewater Region sent one youth to hospital on Monday afternoon.
Police say the crash happened around 5 p.m. on May 4, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 17 and the Algonquin Trail crossing. Investigators say a 12-year-old on a dirt bike was crossing Highway 17 when the vehicle collided with an east-west bound SUV.
The youth was first taken to hospital by ambulance before being airlifted to an Ottawa hospital by Air Ornge. Officials later confirmed the injuries are serious but not life-threatening. The occupants of the SUV were not injured.
A parent was reportedly riding with the youth on a separate dirt bike at the time of the incident.
Highway 17 was closed for several hours while police investigated.
OPP say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
