Waterfowl began to swim into residents' yards | Mik Horvath/MBC
Resilience has been key for residents in Horton as water levels have slowly decreased on the Ottawa River.
Horton Mayor Diana Proctor tells myFM News that the community continues to rally together to support each other as the area enters its third week under flood conditions, adding that she is very mindful of the relentless stress that this year’s flood has put on residents.
She calls the past few weeks a long, drawn-out period of stress for those living on the river, who are forced into constant checking of water levels and conditions, along with the state of property and local roads.
County of Renfrew paramedics have gone door-to-door to check on over 60 homes that are at risk of flooding, and residents continue to benefit from sandbagging and other supports.
While forecasts call for levels to hold or decrease, Proctor understands that relief is likely weeks away.
