Scott Miller is expected to register for Renfrew's council race ahead of the fall election
One prospective nominee in Renfrew’s upcoming municipal election expects the local race to heat up.
Scott Miller, who was among the first people to publicly declare their intention to run for council ahead of registration opening on May 1st, says he wouldn’t be surprised to see a long list of people put their names in the race as people look for fresh perspectives on hot-button issues like budget overruns on high-profile town projects.
That growing interest in the council’s next moves became very apparent as he gauged fellow residents on their views while gaining the 25 signatures needed to run.
Another major aspect that Miller believes will impact the ballot will be who the public thinks will be able to handle strong mayor powers, which have been a source of controversy since the province introduced them to all municipalities in 2025.
Nominations will be accepted in person at Town Hall until August 20th.
The town will update the current list of nominees every Friday. So far, three people, incumbents John McDonald and Clint McWhirter and challenger Bruce Rozycki, have registered for the council race, while current councillor Jason Legris has decided to run for mayor.
