Tragically Hip guitarist Paul Langlois will have something to celebrate when he makes a stop in the Ottawa Valley.
Langlois will perform at the Neat Cafe in Burnstown for two shows on May 15 and 16, just in time to celebrate The Tragically Hip’s induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Speaking with our sister station, Kingston’s 98.3 FLY FM, Langlois calls the induction a big honour, adding that the band is very aware of how hard they worked to earn it.
While they had their hunches about songs like Blow at High Dough, New Orleans is Sinking, and Ahead by a Century, Langlois says the band purposefully stayed out of conversations about which songs were released, instead allowing their record company to choose.
Where they did take a firm stand was sharing songwriting credits as a band, with Langlois recalling a tense, hour-long talk in his parents’ basement that led to what he considers one of the best decisions they ever made.
Another point of pride for Langlois was The Hip becoming comfortable in embracing Canadian culture in their songwriting, even with the pressure to cater to the American audience, as there is no better formula than writing what you know.
Tickets for the Friday, May 15 show have already sold out, with a few still for sale for that Saturday, May 16.
