Officials in Whitewater Region are preparing residents as flood season continues for their communities.
With a flood warning in effect along the Ottawa River until at least the end of the week, the township is urging residents who have been affected by high water and flow conditions in the past to take necessary action to protect and secure any vulnerable property near rivers and lakes.
The township is considering the deployment of sandbags as needed. They are also reminding residents in low-lying areas affected by flooding that access may be restricted by emergency services, with officials providing updates on road closures through Municipal 511 as they happen.
Residents with private wells should take precautions to ensure their drinking water is safe for consumption using resources and testing provided by the Renfrew County District Health Unit.
Whitewater Region will continue to monitor spring conditions closely alongside the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Power Generation, the Ontario River Regulation Planning Board, and staff with both the county and neighboring communities.
The township can be contacted at 613-646-2282 from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and for after-hours emergencies at 613-646-2282, Option 9. Anyone in need of immediate and urgent assistance should call 911.
