According to Earthquakes Canada, at approximately 12:36 p.m. this afternoon, an earthquake shook the Valley.
Its ripples were felt from Arnprior to Pembroke, spilling out from Quebec; it was recorded at a magnitude of 3.9, at a depth of 13 kilometres, located about 20 kilometres Northeast of Shawville.
The last recorded earthquake in that area measured 5.2 magnitude in 2013, which Earthquakes Canada seismologist, Michal Kolaj, said is typical of the region.
Compared to the tectonic plates of the West, earthquakes are less common on the Eastern portion of the continent.
At this time there are no known reports of local damage, which Kolaj said is more typical of an earthquake at a magnitude of 5.0 or greater.
