If you’re 55 or older and interested in competing in the District 5 Renfrew County 55+ Summer Games, registration is now open.
Valerie Trotter is the current president of the District 5 OSGA Senior Games. She says the games originated in 1982, when they went by a different name:
Lori Armour, the communications co-ordinator for the games, recalls that in 2008 the events were primarily held in Renfrew, but soon expanded to Pembroke and as far west as Deep River, with more than 15 different events in total. Lori says that spirit is still reflected in the games today:
The event lineup includes a wide range of activities such as cycling, darts, walking, shuffleboard, pickleball, golf and more, with competitions taking place at venues across Renfrew County throughout April and May.
The cost to join the OSGA is $15, with an additional $43 fee for entry into each event. Golf has an additional $50 fee, and bowling costs $15 to help cover venue expenses. Registration for each event is due two weeks prior and can be paid to renfrewcounty55@gmail.com via e-transfer.
