Winter is coming to an end in the Ottawa Valley, and the dog poop often hidden underneath the snow has local municipalities warning you to watch where you step.
The Town of Renfrew says springtime means a major clean-up of local yards, parks, and walking areas, and they want the community to lend a hand in a bid to keep neighbourhoods clean and safe for pets and people.
Town staff are asking residents and guests to clean up after their pets, either with dog waste bags or a pooper scooper, and to properly dispose of that waste in sealed bags or garbage bins.
Cleaning up during the spring thaw is important because dog waste contains bacteria and parasites that can harm other pets, local wildlife, and people. It can pollute local rivers, lakes, and other water sources during rain.
The town is suggesting homeowners do a full check of their yards to catch any waste that was hidden over the winter and to hose down any frequently used bathroom spots over the spring and summer to keep lawns greener, healthier, and safer for everyone.
