Something sweet will have the Ottawa Valley running to Pembroke’s Mapleside Sugar Bush on April 4th and 5th.
Owner and operator Ray Bonenberg is expecting the right mix of warm days and cool nights to get the sap running just in time to join other maple producers in Ontario for their annual Maple Weekend.
He says the bush has needed a little longer to get ready thanks to the lingering cold in the Ottawa Valley, but it has not been a game-changer.
The community is invited to drop by Mapleside Sugar Bush that weekend to tour the site, enjoy free samples like taffy on snow, and learn more about how the province’s favourite springtime treat is made, something Bonenberg says people who visit really appreciate.
With over 50 years in the business and having watched countless technological advancements introduced, Bonenberg says the principles of making syrup have stood the test of time.
Guests are welcome to the bush from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on both days during Maple Weekend. Admission and most of what’s available on-site are free.
