The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society’s Neuter Scooter has made its first appearance of the season in the Ottawa Valley.
Their Renfrew County Animal Centre successfully transported 22 cats from the area to an affordable, high-quality spay and neuter clinic in Trenton on Wednesday, March 25th, helping to prevent an estimated 600 unplanned offspring in the area.
Heather Jobe, Community Outreach Coordinator for the centre, says programs like the Neuter Scooter play a critical role in making basic veterinary care more accessible, as every spay and neuter surgery helps reduce the number of animals in need of homes and supports healthier communities for both pets and people.
She adds that the program runs thanks to their team of volunteer drivers, which you can join by applying through the Ontario SPCA website.
The Neuter Scooter will ride again early next month, as the Renfrew County Animal Centre is teaming with CARE Animal Rescue in Renfrew to ship another 20 pets to Brockville for surgery on April 8th. They have also been discussing plans for clinic trips in June and October.
