Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney hopes the province will remember the little guy when their 2026 budget gets put into action.
In the wake of the Ontario government’s budget announcement on Thursday, Sidney is hopeful some of that money will be available for the town as it continues to prepare for anticipated economic and communal growth in the near future.
He’s also encouraged by the government’s push to build more homes across the province, noting that people are going to be more interested in moving locally once Highway 417 extends from Arnprior to Bruce Street and they are going to somewhere to settle down.
Sidney adds that ministers and parliamentary assistants have talked the talk when it comes to recognizing the need for more support for smaller communities like those in the Ottawa Valley, and he’s hopeful they will follow through when it comes time to look for funding.
Sidney says the town will continue to push for more public and private investment into the community with the help of local MPP Billy Denault, who Sidney says has been a fantastic advocate for all of Renfrew County at Queen’s Park.
