Today (March 19) staff at Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) gathered in the auxiliary solarium to officially welcome Ricardo Viltakis, the latest physician joining the ranks at RVH.
Viltakis graduated from uOttawa in 2023 as a family trained physician and has previous working experience as an emergency registered nurse and worked at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre as a correctional nurse.
He will be joining the staff in the emergency department which is one of his favourite medical teams to be a part of.
Viltakis will also help fill in the gaps left open in the operation, he will be working to help improve healthcare access for Renfrew families.
According to an Ontario Medical Association report from December 2025, there are currently over 2.5 million Ontarians without a family doctor.
The report said that figure is expected to double this year.
Amanda Low, RVH’s chief of medical staff, said the addition of Viltakis brings ensured future care and maintenance of current healthcare for Valley residents.
RVH CEO Suzanne Madore is still settling into the position after assuming the hot seat in April last year.
Speaking with Madore, she is optimistic for the hospital’s future and said welcoming Viltakis to the team is a great addition for RVH going forward.
Viltakis completed two separate four-week rotations at RVH, which is sort of like the onboarding process for medical professionals.
He fell in love with Renfrew’s healthcare facility during his rotations, also working with Dr. Blaine during that time emphasized the importance of small-community care.
