Demonstrators rally against health care privatization outside the office Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault on March 3rd
Members of the Renfrew County Health Coalition will be marching at the Prime Minister’s door as they fight to protect public health care.
The local coalition will be part of a demonstration outside Mark Carney’s constituency office in Ottawa set for the afternoon of Monday, March 16th, as they implore the federal Liberal government to respond to provincial legislation that their Leona Haley previously warned myFM News would have an impact close to home.
On top of the efforts by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, the Health Coalition says Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s recent pledges to spend millions of dollars on private clinics undermine the province’s public hospitals and go against the Canada Health Act, which ensures Canadians access to public health care.
Haley says smaller, rural communities are being let down by their provincial government, as local health care providers are deliberately underfunded and understaffed while privatization takes money away from public hospitals.
She adds those private clinics are not being built in the Ottawa Valley, either.
Monday’s demonstration, led by the Ontario Health Coalition, is part of a province-wide series of rallies in what they are calling the first set of actions in their fightback against privatization.
