The Whitewater Sno-Goers are using the start of their off-season to reflect on a bittersweet end to their winter.
The snowmobile club says over 300 people, including 180 riders and countless family and friends, joined them at their warming station in Cobden on February 28th for their annual fundraising ride, which they dedicated to the memory of McGregor Madigan, a young club member who tragically lost his life in an ATV accident in early January.
Director Hillary Belsher says the event brought in over $10,000 to directly support the Madigans as they grieve, and the annual ride will split its proceeds evenly between club activities and a foundation or cause of the Madigan family’s choosing.
She calls the event a truly moving experience, with many communities and neighbouring clubs coming together to celebrate McGregor’s love and passion for the outdoors.
For now, the Sno-Goers expect to take a moment to reflect on the season. There are plans for the club’s members to keep in touch during the downtime, including a summer barbeque get-together for the directors and their spouses and their traditional landowners’ dinner in the fall.
