This Saturday (March 7) in partnership with Renfrew OPP, Special Olympics Ontario will be hosting its Polar Plunge.
It’s a fundraiser that has seen success province-wide, and this year in Renfrew the Plunge is happening by the police station on O’Brien Rd.
Special Olympics Renfrew chairperson, Kyle Duperron-Haynes, appeared in front of town council at last week’s council meeting to raise more awareness about Special Olympics programming.
Duperron-Haynes said growth is more important than ever because a lack of athlete enrollment seen today could lead to an inauspicious future.
In an effort to raise awareness and increase Special Olympics engagement, the Polar Plunge is coming to Renfrew.
Donations can be made to teams who will be taking a frigid dip starting at around 11:00 a.m., donated funds go in direct support of Special Olympics.
The water will be quite cold, although Duperron-Haynes said the goal is simply to have some fun while community members connect over a great program.
The Renfrew setup will be a dunk-tank of sorts which means the Polar Plunge can be taken nearly anywhere.
Duperron-Haynes has already started whiteboarding next year’s Plunge.
Head to the OPP detachment at 410 O’Brien Rd this Saturday to take the Plunge in support of Special Olympics Renfrew.
