The Kitchissippi-Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Council of Canadians group has embraced a flurry of activity in recent weeks, as its Climate Matters core group continues the business of trying to protect the planet.
Animator, and Chairperson Ann Pohl joined us recently to talk about Steven Guilbault’s continuing involvement with climate action- but group members on their own have been lobbying over safety concerns with plans to transport nuclear waste to a DGR in Northwestern Ontario, as well as expressing worries to Prime Minister Mark Carney that he not deregulate safeguards that have taken generations to evolve.
Pohl also mentions that she and the climateers are spearheading an initiative that may resemble a crafting session, until you take a deeper dive.
It’s a chance to use one’s embroidering talents- or just plain magic marker
The final format will be determined by the participants involved.
One of the fun possibilities is making super-hero capes for the group’s climateers.
Pohl says a ZOOM session held March 2nd was the first salvo for the project.
Answering the question, “What do you want to protect?” will open the avenues of discussion most on people’s minds.
