A brisk evening stroll through downtown Renfrew has done a lot of good for families struggling to keep their pantries stocked.
The Renfrew and District Food Bank hosted its first-ever Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk on Saturday, as over 70 community members pledged to rally along Raglan Street to raise awareness for their goal of fighting food insecurity in Renfrew and the surrounding area.
Food Bank president Mike Wright was thrilled with the turnout and the chance to celebrate exceeding their goals for the evening.
He adds that the money raised will go a long way in making sure everyone who relies on their services for monthly aid is properly taken care of, especially as the food bank prepares for leaner donation totals over the summer.
The walk was a hit with people passing by, many of whom honked in support or stopped to ask those taking part about the cause. It’s a success that doesn’t come as a surprise for Wright and his volunteers, who are already preparing for a second walk on February 27th, 2027.
Participants were greeted along the trail by volunteers, who offered snacks and encouragement en route back to the food bank for a round of chili to celebrate the group’s efforts.
