Police in Renfrew have brought new meaning to the motto “to serve and protect” as part of their push to support local Special Olympics interests.
Renfrew OPP community outreach officer Tina Hunt was part of a team of officers lending a hand at the local Boston Pizza during the restaurant’s Valentine’s Day rush, where she got a new appreciation for the hard-working service industry while raising funds in advance of a bigger event set for next month.
Constable Hunt admits she hates the cold, but the generosity shown by diners that day will likely help take the edge off of what will be an icy-cold dive at the Renfrew Polar Plunge on March 7th.
She and her fellow officers will brave the elements alongside other community members to help Special Olympics Renfrew provide opportunities in sport for those with intellectual disabilities.
Hunt encourages everyone to come out and cheer on this year’s participants or join them in taking the plunge outside of Renfrew’s OPP Detachment, 410 O’Brien Road, that Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
In the meantime, she is preparing for her plunge by focusing on warmer thoughts.
Donations can be made through the official Polar Plunge website, with those funds supporting athlete and volunteer recruitment, the launch of new programs, and the purchase of new equipment.
