Change is coming to the fire station in Braeside following two decades of dedication and leadership at the top.
Fire Chief Dave Hartwick fought back emotion at the most recent council meeting in McNab/Braeside as he listed two departures from their ranks to start 2026, including District Chief Jim Herbert.
Hartwick says that Herbert’s decision to move on means there’s a new position to fill within their ranks, which the fire department has moved quickly to cover while searching for his replacement.
Township Mayor Lori Hoddinott took to social media following the meeting to recognize Herbert for his years of service within the community, noting that he “answered the call to protect our community” for over two decades, “giving his time, leadership, and experience as part of our volunteer fire service. His commitment reflects the spirit of service that keeps our township safe.”
