The Town of Renfrew and Renfrew OPP are warning residents about a new parking ticket scam which has been prevalent in the area.
They call the scam “Smishing” which is when a scammer takes over a phone number and uses it to try and fraudulently collect money and personal information from individuals.
In this case scammers are stating that the resident has an unpaid parking ticket with the Town.
The Town of Renfrew said it will never text or call for payment on unpaid parking tickets.
When parking tickets are issued they are left on vehicles or given out in person and all follow-up is done through mail only.
The town said If anyone is ever unsure about a parking ticket, please contact the By-Law Officer directly at 613-432-4848 ext. 121.
