OCWA staff locating the source of the break | Mik Horvath/MBC
Town officials say repairs to a watermain break that flooded part of downtown Renfrew on Thursday night have been completed.
As originally reported by myFM News, the break, which public works staff now say was caused by a broken hydrant lead, dumped a large amount of water into the intersection of Bonnechere Street South and Renfrew Avenue West starting at around 5:00 pm that evening, seeping into parts of Renfrew Collegiate Institute and blanketing the immediate outside area in a sheet of ice.
Public Works, alongside the Ontario Clean Water Agency and RCI personnel, worked through the night to repair the break and minimize damage to nearby infrastructure.
All affected roads have been reopened, but commuters are being asked to show extra caution in the area as town staff continue efforts to reduce ice buildup in the area from the excess water.
