Firefighters in Whitewater Region are kicking off February by celebrating hitting their latest benchmarks.
The Whitewater Region Fire Departments gathered with township staff over the weekend to congratulate the ten members of their 2025 recruit class for successfully completing their level 1 certification, as well as their 2024 class for becoming fully-fledged firefighters after several hundreds of hours on on-the-job training
Long-serving members were also honoured at the weekend meeting, up to and including Lt. Ben Snyder, Lt. John Cull, Firefighter Jamie Caswell, Chief Jonathan McLaren, Captain Lorin Martin, and Retired Captain Rick Ruttan, who each received an Exemplary Service Medal for 20 or more years as a firefighter.
Firefighter Steve Brabazon was also honoured with a Long Service bars for over 40 years of services split between Whitewater Region and Ottawa.
The department capped the night off with an emotional farewell for the retiring Lt. Wade Lumax, presenting the long-time Beachburg station mainstay with a handmade plaque to commemorate his retirement.
