Earlier in the week, East Region OPP reported nearly 100 accidents in less than 12 hours due to dangerous conditions from a major winter storm.
Just the other day, OPP officers stationed on the Eastern stretch of Hwy. 401 close to Belleville were occupied with collisions involving about 50 vehicles within the stretch between Glen Miller Rd. and Wallbridge Loyalist Rd.
OPP East Region said the biggest cause for collisions on Hwy. 417 are sudden lane changes.
Pictured above is a Honda Civic OPP said was involved in a collision with a cement truck on Hwy. 417.
The driver changed lanes last second, but the truck driver could not see the car and pushed it for several hundred metres.
No injuries were reported.
OPP are taking this as a safety reminder for highway driving; they said to always ensure to leave enough space when changing lanes especially when maneuvering around a transport or large truck.
They said to ensure a safe lane change, make sure the entire front end of the truck is within view of the rearview mirrors.
