This year the Renfrew and District Food Bank is taking their fundraising to the next level during the Coldest Night of the Year.
In partnership with the Blue Sky Foundation, Renfrew and District Food Bank are hosting the Coldest Night of the Year; a winter walk with the objective of raising $20,000 for food bank services.
Renfrew and District Food Bank president, Mike Wright, said its the biggest team effort the Valley will be taking part in to support the local food bank.
Registration is simple: by heading to https://cnoy.org/location/renfrew and creating an account, team captains can get their team name ready for the 2 or 5 kilometre-long walk scheduled for Feb. 28.
The goal is for 20 teams to raise $1000 each, to a total of $20,000.
Of course there is always room for more.
There is also a general team called the Renfrew Food Bank Supporters, which is the perfect roster to team up with if captain’s duties aren’t for you.
Wright said the food bank is quite familiar with fundraising, however, the Coldest Night is coming because of a bigger demand for the food bank’s services.
Wright said they are experiencing an “unprecedented growth” for intakes at the food bank which is now typically serving around 600 people per month.
It’s a 100 per cent increase compared to last year which is why every frozen dollar from the Coldest Night of the Year goes towards Renfrew and District Food Bank.
