Kale Osipenko’s brief audition at the OHL level appears to have earned him an extended role with the Sarnia Sting.
The team has announced that they have signed the Renfrew-born goaltender as part of a larger batch of signings the organization has made in an attempt to add much-needed depth as the team attempts to climb out of the league’s basement in the second half of the season.
Osipenko posted a 2.41 GAA and a .930 SV% with the CCHL’s Renfrew Jr. A Wolves to start the season, and also represented Hockey Canada at the World Junior A Challenge earlier this season.
In an official release, Sting General Manager Dylan Seca notes that Kale has “had a tremendous start to his season and continued to show well in high-level environments” since first called up to the Sting on December 17th.
“We’ve had him in here practicing, and he’s looked great,” he adds. “Goaltending depth is something we’re going to need down the stretch and going into September.”
Osipenko made his first OHL start on January 11 against the Kingston Frontenacs, earning the win after allowing just one goal.
