Just ahead of today’s council meeting, Town of Renfrew mayor Tom Sidney and council presented a gift of achievement to MP Cheryl Gallant for 25 years of public service.
Sidney presented a framed photo of the McDougall Mill Museum, which the town calls a local, cherished landmark.
Gallant has supported the museum over the years through grants and assistance with summer student employment.
Town reeve Peter Emon also presented a gift: a copy of Charlotte: The Last Suffragette by Dave Mullington.
The book is a biography about Charlotte Whitton, one of the most notable people and politicians who came up from Renfrew.
Whitton went on to become the first female Mayor of Ottawa.
The Town of Renfrew and its council said it extends their “sincere thanks and congratulations to MP Gallant for her many years of dedicated service.”
