Emergency services tending to the blaze
On Monday, Jan. 5, Douglas lost the historical Tavern, which included the Douglas Diner, Trading Post and residential units, to a fire.
Recently elected Renfrew County warden Jennifer Murphy took to Facebook to share her condolences with Douglas, Admaston/Bromley Township and its people.
“This landmark has long been a gathering place and a symbol of the strong community spirit that defines Douglas and the surround area,” Murphy said on the social media post.
Murphy also commended the efforts of Amanda and Dan, owners of the Trading Post and Diner.
“This loss is felt not only as the destruction of a historic building, but as a blow to two local entrepreneurs who invested their hearts into preserving its spirit,” she said.
Miraculously no injuries were reported and the County is grateful for the swift response from local emergency services.
“The County stands with Douglas as we reflect on this loss and support one another in the days ahead,” Murphy said.
In the meantime, the County is asking residents to avoid the area and to respect the emergency services personnel cleaning up the scene.
