Shifting weather continues to cause problems for people looking to get outside for a fun time at the outdoor rink in White Lake.
McNab/Braeside Mayor Lori Hoddinott is thanking residents for their patience as a stretch of freeze and thaw weather cycles dating back to mid-December has made building the outdoor rink’s ice surface a challenge.
Hoddinott tells myFM News that the township is watching closely as a milder temperatures later in the week could bring overnight lows above the –7°C that the ice surface needs to remain usable.
“Outdoor rinks are entirely weather dependent, and conditions this season have required careful timing to ensure ice quality and safety,” Hoddiniott says. “Staff and the contractor will continue to monitor conditions and maintain the rink as temperatures allow.”
Township council has approved and fully funded a new concrete-based outdoor rink at White Lake Park, which will create more stable conditions than the current asphalt slab when planned work proceeds in early 2026.
