The Ottawa Vallley Girls Hockey Association met with the Robert Chartrand Memorial Tournament Committee to collect a generous $5,000 donation.
The team behind the Robert Chartrand Memorial Tournament continues to celebrate his love for sport and community on what would have been in 35 birthday.
Representatives from the dual sport tournament, which has hosted softball and hockey games in Robert’s hometown of Chapeau, Quebec every October since 2023, have made the rounds throughout the Ottawa Valley and MRC Pontiac in recent days to split $55,000 in proceeds from last year’s festivities.
Organizers say the tournament has grown into something truly special because of the way Robert showed up for others and his belief in giving back to the community, something they have emulated to benefit local sports and youth programs that reflect the values he lived by.
Among the local groups supported in this year’s contributions include the Chapeau and Beachburg Recreation Associations, the Upper Pontiac Sports Complex, Ottawa Valley Thunder Girls Hockey Association, and Upper Ottawa Valley Little League.
