Renfrew County has a new warden in 2026, and her name is Jennifer Murphy. If that name seems familiar, it’s because this is her second stint as warden, having previously served in the position from 2017 to 2019.
myFM had the opportunity to sit down with Murphy recently to discuss the upcoming year.
Even though she comes from an automotive background, by her own admission she says she was destined for politics at a very early age.
Having been in the role before, Murphy has a pretty good idea of what to expect, but municipalities are rarely, if ever, static, so she knew there would still be lots to learn and experience.
Even though she hails from the Yonge and Eglinton area of Toronto, her ties to the Valley are deep and always have been, she says.
The year 2026 is going to be a busy one, says Murphy, with a whole slate of initiatives planned and some just simmering in the background.
The Valley is well known for taking care of its own, and Murphy is well aware of this long-standing tradition. Keeping this tradition alive is high on the list of priorities to maintain in 2026 and well beyond.
Rounding out the conversation, Murphy is aware that she is coming back to the helm in an election year, and the significance of this is certainly not lost on her.
Best of luck to incoming Warden Murphy in 2026.
