December marked the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society’s Home for the Holidays adoption campaign which smashed its goal of 500 adoptions.
Home for the Holidays ran from Dec. 1 until Dec. 24 promoting the adoption of animals of all ages, including seniors, and species.
By the time the holidays wrapped up, families across the province adopted 688 animals taken in by the Ontario SPCA.
Many of the furry tenants are found wandering and dropped off by regional animal control services.
It’s a critical time of year because of fast-changing frigid weather and Ontario SPCA and Humane Society vice president of operations, Sonya Reichel, said reaching their goal is a reminder of what community compassion is capable of.
“Every adoption represents a life changed, not just for the animal, but for the family who opened their heart and home,” Reichel said.
Those unable to adopt can still support the organization by making a donation to help the Ontario SPCA continue its heartfelt mission.
