Officials in McNab-Braeside are calling on the community to speak up about the misuse of some public facilities or risk losing them.
The township has been following a string of ongoing vandalism and property damage at the John A. Gillies Recreation Centre and the nearby outdoor rink, including garbage being left behind and both excessive messes and deliberate misuse of the facility’s washrooms.
The rink and the building’s washrooms will be closed until further notice for cleaning and repairs while staff also review security camera footage, and the township is warning that further issues could lead to rink users losing the washrooms for good.
In the meantime, parents and guardians within the community are urged to speak with their children about respecting public property and the strain on community resources caused by vandalism.
