Queen E. students sit proudly in front of their creations | Mik Horvath/MBC
Today (Dec. 18) the halls of Queen Elizabeth Public School were filled with the sweet aroma of gingerbread; the popular holiday biscuit laid the foundation for the school’s first gingerbread house competition.
Each class was tasked was awarded a contract to construct gingerbread houses.
The one rule is that there were no rules and some students took that as an opportunity to build other structures such as a ski hill or a holiday market.
Classmates Molly and Ryan worked on the same gingerbread house and they said one of the biggest challenges was agreeing with other students on design elements.
Cainan worked on the same structure as Molly and Ryan, and he said many students were frustrated with the disagreements.
Despite the difficulties, the kids banded together to materialize a united idea.
Ryan and Molly said it showed them how teamwork is a valuable asset and how important it is to prevent obstacles from sabotaging the operation.
Gingerbread houses were judged by a panel of community representatives including members from Renfrew Fire Department, Domino’s Pizza Renfrew and even myFM had a say in the results.
