Renfrew County and its neighbouring municipalities have reached a new agreement to secure long-term access to the historic K&P Trail.
The deal brings together Renfrew, Lanark, and Frontenac counties, along with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, to begin transferring several sections of the trail from the MVCA to the three counties. Once complete, the counties will take over stewardship of the former rail line, including maintenance, accessibility upgrades, promotion, and eventually securing clear title to the land.
Lanark County Warden Richard Kidd says that trails like the K&P “are economic drivers, tourism magnets, and places where residents connect with nature,” adding that by working together, they “are safeguarding this legacy for future generations while strengthening the recreational opportunities that make our region such a vibrant place to live and visit.”
The K&P Trail, which includes a 21-kilometer section between Renfrew and Calabogie, continues to attract hikers, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts from across Ontario and beyond.
