The children’s hospital serving the area surrounding Ottawa has been named one of Canada’s top research hospitals.
Research Infosource, a major consulting firm in the research and development industry, has released its annual ranking of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals.
The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, more commonly called CHEO, ranked 24th out of 40 on the list. CHEO also ranked second on the firm’s list of the top small-tier research hospitals thanks to a 16 per cent increase in year-over-year research spending.
Dr. Jason Berman, the Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Director of the CHEO Research Institute and the Vice President of Research for CHEO as a whole, said he was extremely proud for his team to receive the recognition.
Berman explained that the majority of the Research Institute’s funding comes from grants, rather than the Ministry of Health. He says CHEO is a leading researcher in Canada in several areas.
Berman encouraged anyone interested in learning more about the work done at CHEO’s Research Institute to visit its website.
A total of 20 hospitals from Ontario were featured on Research Infosource’s list, including the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre also located in Ottawa.
