In partnership with the Downtown Renfrew Business Improvement Area and the Renfrew and District Food Bank the oldest hardware store around is back in the game with a generous donation campaign.
Scott and Son’s Hardware challenges Renfrew to add to the peak of Toy Mountain which is a donation campaign, run in part by the Renfrew and District Food Bank, that will deliver toys to children in need of some extra holiday generosity.
Jeff Scott, part owner and operator, said Scott and Son’s used to be a big toy supplier in the mid-20th century and this annual donation campaign is a way of keeping up with tradition.
Every year Scott and Son’s Hardware hosts this donation blitz, but the assembly of Toy Mountain is a callback to the golden age.
So far the crew at Scott and Son’s have seen a large influx in donations and have been working around the clock to fit them into the window display.
Despite the massive presence of the hardware store’s front windows, Scott said there have been so many toys coming in they are running out of room, but Scott’s will always make space for the community.
Jeff Scott has dubbed his exuberant employees as Scott and Son’s Christmas elves, which do most of the work organizing the windows.
Usually Scott himself is very involved with the store’s famous and eye-catching window displays, but this year he’s taking a step back to see what the elves can do.
Jackson Scheuneman is one of the “elves”, he’s been working at the hardware store for about five years, and he said participating in this generous give puts a new perspective on community involvement as a home-grown Renfrewite.
Scott and Son’s Hardware is one of, if not, the biggest storefronts in the downtown core.
Its structure extends all the way back to Argyle St. and Scott said they are fortunate to have such a large store to provide a venue for local community craftworkers and support programs such as this one.
From bake sales to handcrafted furniture, Scott and Son’s always tries to help out the locals.
The success of the donations is partly in-due to the front window display.
Scott and Son’s Hardware has a large Facebook presence which they use to promote their products and events, but this year’s Christmas window crests the peak in regards to recognition.
As of Dec. 3 when myFM spoke with Scott, views were nearing 40,000 with hundreds of likes and comments.
While there isn’t a hard deadline currently set for when the toys will be shipped to the Food Bank for organization and distribution Scott is hoping Toy Mountain will continue to grow until Dec. 20.
