The Eganville community received difficult news Monday, Nov. 24, with the announcement that the Bank of Montreal (BMO) branch will close on June 19, 2026.
The closure comes shortly after the recent shutdowns of The Beer Store and the downtown Foodmart, and affects seven staff members at the branch, a fixture in the community since 1898.
Branch manager Ron Schauer, an Eganville native, has led the location for 19 years and worked with BMO for 41 years. Other staff include Mark Kempt, senior banker; Heather Verch and Sarah Harrington, personal bankers; and customer service representatives Kelly Zadow, Taylor Ott, and Julie Becker.
BMO has nearby branches in Pembroke, Renfrew, Barry’s Bay, and Deep River, and staff are expected to be offered transfers to those locations.
