The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP will mark its 29th year in The Christmas Angel program in 2025, and organizers say the need remains as strong as ever. Each “Angel” represents a local child who could use a little extra kindness during the holiday season.
Constable Mike Mahon of the Renfrew County OPP says the scope of the program has widened to include not only kids, but anyone in the community who just needs a bit of a helping hand:
Residents are invited to visit any participating location, choose an Angel, and purchase a gift — with no set spending limit — for that person. Gifts should be returned unwrapped, placed in a gift bag, and clearly labelled with the corresponding Angel tag. Donations must be brought back to the same location where the Angel was selected.
This year actually marks the 10th year that the program has been expanded beyond just children says Mahon, in response to the ever growing need for support to people who are either in their teens or adults who are struggling. Mahon says they are doing their best to keep up with the rising numbers of recipients:
The deadline to return gifts is Wednesday, Dec. 3rd at 3PM, giving organizers enough time to sort and distribute donations before Christmas. If you are looking to participate, time is running out as the big day is fast approaching:
