A child suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 17 in the Rolphton area, west of Deep River.
The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP responded around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, after a 10-year-old who had just exited a westbound school bus was hit while crossing the road. Police say the eastbound driver failed to stop despite the bus having its red lights and stop arm activated.
The child was taken to hospital by Renfrew County Paramedics. One person was arrested at the scene.
A 29-year-old Dorval, Que., man is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving causing bodily harm and failing to stop for a school bus with its lights activated. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Pembroke court on Dec. 15.
Police are reminding motorists to remain vigilant around school buses, noting that failing to stop can have tragic consequences.
