Last week myFM spoke with the Town of Renfrew’s communications and engagement coordinator Hannah MacMillan to hear how the town is planning on recycling unused holiday lights.
MacMillan said that recycling idea came up at a meeting with the town’s Employee Engagement Team, which is a group of town staff who band together to come up with ideas of directly helping the community.
For example, this team donates gifts for the Family and Children Services Angel Tree program.
MacMillan said they’re always looking for non-profits to work with and the Renfrew Rotary Club is the most recent partner.
She said one of the main motivators for the team is that since most town staff live in Renfrew they see firsthand how difficult some aspects of life has become.
The Employee Engagement Team also runs an annual food drive to donate items towards Renfrew and District Food Bank’s advent calendar.
MacMillan said town staff from all corners of the municipal workforce help contribute towards the advent calendar.
She adds the Employee Engagement Team always has their ears open for any organization that needs an extra set of hands.
The team is always sure to help the community they love and call home.
