Yesterday morning the City of Pembroke put out an emergency notice to alert residents of a watermain break and to inform them to use less water during repairs.
At around 4 p.m. yesterday Pembroke posted another update saying properties between Trafalgar Road and 786 Pembroke St. W., on Pembroke Street West between George and Wilfred streets and Miramichi Lodge were directly affected by the break.
The city later said water services were brought back to residences at 9:26 p.m., stating “through the outstanding efforts of the City of Pembroke’s Water Distribution staff, in coordination with Water Treatment Plant staff, and additional outside resources, the City has restored normal water service to all directly-affected residences impacted by the large diameter trunk watermain break,”
However, water was not restored to Miramichi Lodge.
Miramichi Lodge is a long-term care home with 166 beds and since the break they have been sourcing water from a cistern truck hooked up to the building.
The water is non-potable, but allows essential hygiene services such as plumbing to continue operating as normal.
Until the break is fully repaired, which the city said is expected to take about two weeks, there is a notice for all Pembroke residents to reduce water usage.
