The County of Renfrew’s outgoing warden says it’s business as usual even as the race to replace him is on.
Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon says other commitments, which would eat into what is, in his mind, a full-time job leading the county council, ultimately played into his choice not to join Admaston/Bromley Mayor Michael Donohue and Bonnechere Valley Mayor Jennifer Murphy in seeking another term ahead of last week’s deadline.
Even as he winds down his second multi-year stint as warden, Emon says his upcoming schedule remains packed as he continues meeting with stakeholders from the provincial and federal government, as well as other municipalities, as he will continue to fight for the needs of local residents.
Emon adds that he also is working alongside his potential successors on top priorities for the council ahead of the December 10th vote, as both agree that he should keep pushing forward on what have been some of his signature concerns over his last three years spearheading policy decisions.
The county’s 17 municipal representatives hold a vote each year for the role of warden. Emon had put forward a motion that would have turned the position into a four-year role voted on during the municipal elections, but it failed to make it to the table in time for consideration.
