Contractors are fighting against the clock and Mother Nature to sneak in one last repair to one of Renfrew’s most popular recreation facilities.
Recreation Operations Supervisor Shawn Eckford explains that work along the lighting system for the Tye Field ball diamond has continued despite a week of adverse weather, as crews attempt to bring the lights back into working order ahead of the spring.
The repairs have been long-anticipated, as local ball teams have waited most the past year to hear when evening games at Ma-te-Way Park would be possible following an inspection that came up with serious safety issues about the state of the lighting system.
Eckford says that the current work is part of the first phase of repairs along the three ball diamonds around the park and will at least ensure that tournament coordinators have an option when the need to play late into the day comes up in the spring.
The Tye Field repair should be completed in full by the end of November.
