Weather forecasts are reporting potential snowfalls of 5-15 cm this Sunday which would be the first major snowfall of the 2025 late winter season.
OPP in Ontario’s East Region urges the public to take great care if they’re planning to drive this weekend.
Before you hop into the driver’s seat the car should have winter tires fitted to all four corners of the vehicle.
Winter tires not only have more aggressive tread for digging through snow and slush, but the softer rubber compound allows the tires to stick to ice and snow much better than the harder summer compounds.
Vision is also critical for winter driving; ensuring windshield wipers are in good condition will be important for keeping the snow out of your eyes.
Police also highly recommend outfitting your car with an emergency kit which commonly includes blankets, flashlights and non-perishable foods.
Winter driving is also a completely different style compared to summer driving.
Slippery snow and ice reduces the effectiveness of brakes and tires, drive carefully and patiently to account for the road conditions.
Staying up-to-date on weather forecasts is also a big help, stay tuned for myFM’s local weather alerts to prepare for inclement weather.
