As the winter months roll in, so do the sleds.
Renfrew County’s trail network is vast and the county is expecting lots of traffic once snowmobile season begins on Dec. 1.
ATV’s still have a few weeks on the trails as well, their season ends Nov. 30.
The county has received an increase in inquiries regarding trail rules, so they’ve partnered up with OPP’s East Region to promote trail safety.
The tips are as follows:
- Stay on designated trails: this protects the environment and bypasses safety hazards
- Know the rules: obey all posted signs and speed limits
- Rules of the road applies: all motorized operators must posses a minimum G2 license and a valid trail permit
- Share the trail: watch out for pedestrians, other vehicles and wildlife
- Gear up: always wear proper gear such as a helmet and dress warm during cold rides
- Never ride impaired: substance use decreases fine skills and reaction times
- Plan ahead: it never hurts to check the weather, especially ahead of a big ride
Trails that intersect with the Town of Renfrew include the Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail (Algonquin Trail) and the K&P Recreational Trail.
