Local firefighters want your attention as they raise the alarm about a silent killer in the household.
As Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month runs this week, the Renfrew Fire Department will be offering tips, suggestions, and advice to the community regarding the health risks and danger presented by the odourless, colourless, and tasteless gas.
The week comes as the Ontario Fire Code is evolving to match the national standard starting in the new year, with homeowners required to install CO alarms on every storey of a home and not just near sleeping areas, while multi-unit residential buildings will require them in all suites and, depending on certain conditions, service rooms and public corridors.
The fire department says the changes are designed to better protect vulnerable people with detection tools in place where the risks are the highest.
